Although most people do not realize it, black teas have distinct flavors based on where the tea was grown. For instance, Darjeeling, which is grown in the Darjeeling region of India, has a much lighter color in the cup and a lighter flavor on the palate than an Assam, which is bolder and more brisk. Most tea drinkers are familiar with English Breakfast, Irish Breakfast, or Earl Grey. All three are blends of tea. Straight tea from a region, or specifically from a plantation, contains tastes one would never expect from “black tea”. There is a reason Queens and Kings were the first to get tea.
